The Asta Gear 1 is a freestanding, ultralight 1-person hiking tent. Designed for trekking, alpine bivouacking, and cycle touring, this double-walled dome tent offers excellent protection against wind, rain, and light snow while remaining compact in your pack.
The 15D silicone-coated ripstop nylon flysheet provides effective protection against prolonged downpours (approx. 3,000 mm hydrostatic head), while the reinforced ripstop nylon groundsheet (approx. 20–30D, approx. 5,000 mm hydrostatic head) offers durable insulation from ground moisture. The 20D mesh inner tent ensures ventilation and keeps insects out. The exterior design features a suspended inner tent: the pole is mounted on the flysheet, and the inner tent is then attached underneath, allowing the tent to be pitched in the rain without getting the interior wet.
With a footprint of approximately 220 × 110 cm (usable room approx. 215 × 90 × 100 cm), the space is suitable for one person with full gear, and includes a front vestibule for shoes and a bag. The freestanding 7001 aluminum alloy frame (8.5 mm diameter poles) ensures stability and durability. When packed, the tent fits into a bag measuring approximately 45 × 15 cm and weighs around 1.25 kg (approx. 1.10 kg in its smallest configuration without additional guy lines or pegs).
Technical specifications and advantages
- Self-supporting dome architecture: two crossed 8.5 mm aluminum arches ensure a stable structure that stands on its own even before the stakes are put in place, practical on rocky ground or in snow.
- Lightweight double wall: 15D silicone-coated flysheet and 20D mosquito net inner tent for a good compromise between protection and breathability, limiting condensation in the mountains.
- 15D silicone-nylon outer fabric: high tear resistance ripstop, silicone coating on both sides for durable waterproofing and quick drying.
- Reinforced groundsheet: high density ripstop nylon with high water column PU coating; raised basin to limit water rising and splashing of mud or slush.
- Outer-wear / inner-hang assembly: the flysheet goes up first, the inner tent stays dry during assembly and disassembly in rain or snow.
- Effective ventilation: large mosquito net areas, double-slider front opening and ridge vent(s) to create airflow and limit condensation in cold conditions.
- Optimized 1-person habitability: interior length approx. 215 cm to accommodate a standard mattress and equipment at the foot, maximum height of approx. 100 cm allowing for comfortable sitting.
- Modular apse: integrated front vestibule for storing shoes and bag; compatible additional awning (sold separately) to extend the living space or cook under cover.
- Wind and snow resistance: compact and low shape, multiple reinforced anchor points, Dyneema type fabric reinforcements on tension areas to withstand gusts and moderate snow load.
- Reliable hardware: 7001 aluminum alloy poles, adjustable guy lines, heavy-duty hooks for the inner tube, flap-protected zippers and pulls that are easy to handle with gloves.
- Easy transport: total weight of approximately 1.25 kg with aluminum poles and pegs, small volume (45 × 15 cm) suitable for trekking bag, compact storage bag included.
- Versatility 3–4 seasons: usable from spring to winter in the mountains with good guying and suitable anchors; ideal for challenging hiking, summer mountaineering, bikepacking and light expeditions on snow.
- Discreet color: light grey exterior slightly translucent, limiting heat gain in the sun and blending easily into rocky or snowy environments.
